How to turn on voice to text in Mac
- Open System Settings from the Apple menu.
- Click Keyboard in the sidebar and scroll to Dictation.
- Switch Dictation on. Pick your language and, if you want, a shortcut such as pressing Control twice.
- Choose your microphone in the same section if you use a headset or external mic.
- Click in any text field and press the shortcut (or the Microphone key, F5 on recent Macs). Talk, then press it again or wait to stop.

Tips for better speech to text on a MacBook
- Use a headset in noisy rooms. The MacBook mic is good, but a close mic always wins in a café.
- Talk in full thoughts. Pausing mid-sentence to think is fine. Pausing mid-word is what trips speech engines up.
- Say punctuation out loud when it matters, like in a client email.
